From Visual to Verbal: Describing Images and Graphics in Academic Videos

In this workshop, we will explore why describing important visual content in academic videos matters, particularly for students who are blind or have low vision, while also supporting clearer learning for all students. We will review brief examples, share practical strategies for describing images, charts, and other visuals, and demonstrate a simple process for adding visual descriptions to academic videos. AI will be introduced as one tool that can help draft and refine descriptions. The session will conclude with a brief Q&A.

Workshop Format: 20-25 minute presentation with demo followed by 5–10 minute Q&A with an Instructional Designer and a Media Specialist
